Evidence requirements

Show what your product does, who it is for and how the supporting material relates to its everyday use.

Connect each claim to evidence

List the principal claims made on the product, packaging, instructions or website. For each one, identify the supporting file and the relevant pages or findings. Explain how the result applies to the product and people described in your entry.

Identify what was assessed

Give the formulation or model and relevant software versions. If a study used a different version, dose, population or setting, explain the difference and its significance. A shared brand name alone does not establish that findings apply to every product.

Include the full finding

Provide the method, comparison, conditions and relevant results, including limitations and contrary findings. Identify study authors, funding and manufacturer involvement. Testimonials can describe an experience but do not replace appropriate evidence of a claimed benefit.

Show how people use the product

Include current labels and instructions, evidence of important user tasks, and the support offered. Depending on the product, this can include setup, sampling, fitting, result interpretation, error recovery, cleaning and maintenance. State any training, assistance or recurring costs.

Give each type of evidence a clear purpose

Material What it helps reviewers understand
Product study or performance report Whether the claimed function or benefit is supported under the reported conditions
Usability findings Whether intended users can carry out important tasks and understand the results
Labels, instructions and warnings What people are told before, during and after use
Support and reliability information How performance and practical use are maintained over time

One type of material does not automatically answer the questions addressed by another. Read the guidance for your product category before selecting the files.

Organise and protect your material

Use the claims and evidence worksheet to make an index. Remove unnecessary personal information and check that you have permission to provide each file. Evidence is private; the proposed public product summary is supplied separately.
